Kim Cookson

Kim Cookson is a licensed psychologist and trauma and resiliency informed psychotherapist. Kim combines relational therapy with AF-EMDR and somatic resourcing and processing. Kim practices virtually in California. Kim taught Dr. Laurel Parnell’s AF-EMDR Basic Training at the Southern California Counseling Center (SCCC), a sliding scale community counseling center located in Los Angeles and Watts, CA, where she created the 9-month Trauma and Resiliency Training Program. SCCC has been providing EMDR to a community confronting systemic trauma, poverty, violence and interpersonal trauma for over a decade. Kim is now shifting her focus to teaching Dr. Parnell’s EMDR Refresher Course for EMDRIA trained therapists who wish to expand their EMDR toolbox to include the AF-EMDR approach and skills. Kim is also affiliated with the somatically oriented Trauma Resource Institute (TRI), where she is a Community Resiliency Model (CRM) trainer and facilitator as well as a Trauma Resiliency Model Part 1 trainer and facilitator. Kim has traveled to the Philippines, Nepal and Trinidad with TRI, bringing the CRM model to highly diverse communities recovering from natural disasters.
