Lisa M. Goldfarb

Dr. Lisa Goldfarb is Board-Certified in both Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry. A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Goldfarb is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine and a lecturer at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. Dr. Goldfarb is in private practice with offices in Brooklyn, NY and Manhattan, NY. She is most interested in treating patients with complicated addiction problems and trauma histories, as well as their difficult mood states, anxiety disorders and complex personality styles. She uses psychodynamic principles as a foundation in her work. She believes that most patients who struggle with addiction benefit from a combination of cognitive behavioral techniques, EMDR (trauma focussed work), supportive psychotherapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy. She utilizes the techniques of motivational interviewing to decrease resistance and more fully address the patient’s addictions and self-destructive behavior patterns. Dr. Goldfarb also works with family members using the techniques of CRAFT. Teaching families to constructively communicate a healthy, positive message has been shown to shift addictive behavior toward moderation or complete abstinence
